American astronaut James McDevitt

Astronaut Mr.James McDevitt, who played a main role in the first space missions to reach the moon, has died at the age of 93.

Astronaut James McDevitt died in Tuscon, Arizona, according to a statement issued by the American space agency NASA on Monday.

Mr.James McDevitt joined NASA in 1962, later he had commanding Apollo 9 and Gemini 4.

He also played an important main role in the historic event of the first man stepping on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission.
