According to ABC News on the 18th, the largest shopping mall in the United States, located in the suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota, plans to introduce a weapons detection system, and is currently testing metal detectors at the entrance. In 2021, the mall has seen two shootings and one armed robbery.
Laura Utke, a spokeswoman for the mall, said on the 18th that the weapons detection system is scheduled to open at the north gate of the mall in November, but she declined to say which items could not pass the metal detector. Malls are also testing other safety issues, she said.
The mall, called Bloomington, opened in 1992 and is the largest shopping mall in the United States, as well as a tourist attraction and a gathering place for the community.
