The Communist Party of China declared President Xi Jinping’s leadership as indispensable for the country, paving the way for him to become president for a third term.
China’s ruling party approved sweeping changes at a week-long party meeting in Beijing that saw several top officials resign and give Xi an opportunity to appoint new allies.
2300 officials members attended the party meeting. The country’s former president Hu Jintao was not allowed to joine the closing ceremony.
All officials recognized Xi Jinping’s indispensable position over the entire party, including the Central Committee, and passed a resolution to change the charter.
On Sunday, Xi Jinping will become general secretary of the Communist Party, paving the way for his third term as the country’s president, to be announced at the government’s annual legislative session in March.
