8 retired officers of the Indian Navy were arrested in Qatar, according to an Indian newspaper, the former officers were working for a Qatari company.

This matter came to light when a Twitter user, Dr. Mitu Bhargava, reported it while tweeting.

He said that the retired Navy officers have been illegally detained in Doha for 57 days, the Twitter user tagged Prime Minister Modi, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh.

According to a report in the Indian newspaper, the former navy officers worked for a Qatari company that describes itself as a partner of Qatar’s defense, security and other government agencies.

No information has been found regarding why the former Indian Navy officers were arrested and what are the charges against them.

The detained Indian Navy officers were granted consular access by India’s diplomatic mission in Doha earlier this month.
