Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zakharova said on November 26 local time that Europe’s energy crisis should be blamed on the wrong decisions made by its leaders. Zakharova said that it was they who pushed Europe, especially EU countries, into energy collapse. Zakharova said European politicians now face a huge test of convincing their citizens that what is happening is in what they call their “self-interest”.

Since Russia launched a special military operation against Ukraine in February this year, the European Union has followed the United States and imposed multiple rounds of sanctions on Russia, involving energy and other fields. Due to the backlash of the sanctions, energy prices in many European countries have repeatedly hit new highs, and the economy is facing the risk of recession.
