The Taliban banned women from working in welfare organizations, and all local and foreign organizations were instructed not to hire female employees.
The order to prevent women from working in NGOs was issued by the Afghan Ministry of Economic Affairs.
According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Abdul Rahman Habib, women employees will not work in NGOs for the time being.
The spokesperson says that the ban has been imposed due to non-implementation of administrative guidelines regarding women’s clothing.
The Ministry of Economic Affairs says that the licenses of NGOs that do not follow the directive will be revoked.
The application of this ban on UN organizations has not yet been clarified.
