The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has blocked Wikipedia services in Pakistan on Friday for failing to remove offensive content.
A PTA spokesperson was contacted late on Friday night and inquired about the blocking of Wikipedia, and he confirmed the blocking.
According to the details, on the direction of the High Court, the PTA suspended the HBD services for 48 hours due to the obscene content.
A PTA spokesperson said that Wikipedia was contacted to block/remove the said content by issuing a notice under applicable law and court order(s). However, Wikipedia neither complied with the removal of the offending content nor appeared before the authority.
In case of non-compliance by Wikipedia, the platform has been blocked within Pakistan.
