The Ukrainian army is digging new trenches to stop Russian troops in the eastern city of Bakhmut.
According to the Reuters news agency, the Russian military has been targeting Bakhmut in Donetsk province intermittently for months. This is one of the areas where the most fighting is taking place.
Ukrainian military analyst Ole Zhadanov says that in the last 24 hours, our forces have repelled more than 170 attacks.

Zhadanov further said that the Russians are trying to encircle Bakhmut from the north, east and south.
In 2022, this area left the hands of Russia. Russian officials say recapturing Bakhmut would be a step toward taking over the entire industrial area.
On the other hand, the United States has said that “in a meeting with the Chancellor of Germany on Friday, there will be a discussion on new military aid for Ukraine.”
According to officials, Washington will announce $400 million in new military aid. Ukraine is likely to be the main topic of the meeting between President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Schulz.
US officials familiar with the military aid package said it would include guided multiple launch rocket systems, ammunition for Bradley fighting vehicles and bridges for armored vehicles.
The U.S. has provided nearly $32 billion worth of weapons to Ukraine to defend against Russia. Russia attacked its western neighbor on February 24, 2022.

A senior administration official has said that President Joe Biden and Chancellor Olaf Schulz are also likely to discuss China’s potential arms supply to Russia.
US officials said on Thursday that Washington was trying to win the support of allies for possible new sanctions on China.
