The Office of the Attorney General of Ecuador announced on April 19 local time that the death toll from a landslide disaster in the Arausi region of Chimborazo Province in the central part of the country has risen to 43.

On the night of March 26, due to continuous heavy rainfall, a large-scale landslide occurred in the Araosi area of Chimborazo Province, Ecuador. The mudslides rushed into more than 200 nearby residential buildings, causing more than 1,000 people to be displaced; more than 50 residential buildings were destroyed. 45 people are still missing.

Chimborazo Provincial Governor Ivan Vinuesa said that in order to prevent possible new disasters, disaster relief work will continue with necessary security measures.
