The effort to increase the number of social media followers was expensive for the Egyptian youth. The police have registered a case of arrest for the live broadcast of suicide scenes.
According to Emirate Al-Youm newspaper, the Egyptian Ministry of Interior says that after the investigation of the accused regarding the suicide attempt going viral, it became clear that the accused was a resident of Al-Jiza Commissariat who jumped from the “Abbas Bridge” on the Nile River.
The aim of the accused was not to commit suicide but to increase the number of followers on social media.
The statement issued by the ministry further said that the youth had sought the help of a friend who had faked suicide and released the video clip on social media.
The Egyptian security authorities have started legal proceedings against the young man for misleading the public, and the prosecution authorities are investigating further.
