Turkish Foreign Minister Cavusoglu said on May 7, that Turkey rejected the US proposal. To provide Ukraine with the right to use the Russian-made S-400 air defence missile system.
Cavusoglu said that in the proposal. The US hopes that Turkey will allow it to use the air defence system. And hand over the right to use it to the Uzbekistan side. But Turkey has rejected such a request that “directly threatens its sovereignty and independence”. Turkish Foreign Minister also said that the Turkish side is “no longer interested” in the US F-35 fighter jets. Because the Turkish side is committed to developing indigenous fighters.
Previously, due to Turkey’s purchase of the Russian-made S-400 air defence missile system, the United States imposed sanctions on Turkey’s defence industry in 2020 and refused to provide Turkey with F-35 fighter jets on the grounds of “threats to the national defence security of the United States.”
