US fighter jets intercepted six Russian jets in Alaska’s international airspace.
The North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) said in its statement that the Russian planes include Tu-95 bombers, IL-78 tankers, and Su-35 fighter jets.
This type of intervention by Russia is part of the routine six to seven times a year, Nored said.
US Aerospace Defence said in its statement that most of these Russian activities in the Alaskan Air Defence Identification Zone (ADIZ) are not considered a threat.
Officials department said, “We keep a close watch and focus on the movement of these aircraft, if necessary we take them out of the ADIZ.”
The statement added that the Russian jets were intercepted by US Air Force F-16, F-22, KC-135 Stratotanker, and E-3 Awaks aircraft.
