For its part, Cairo confirmed the killing of “a security element” following an exchange of fire on the border with the Zionist entity.

Hours before the shooting, an attempt to smuggle drugs at the border was thwarted, and contraband worth about 1.5 million shekels (about $400,000) was confiscated, according to a spokesman.
The border between Egypt and Israel witnessed repeated attempts to smuggle drugs, which led to clashes with live ammunition in recent years between smugglers and Zionist soldiers stationed along the border.
