Clashes and renewed artillery fire have been reported since Sunday morning in the Sudanese capital Khartoum, shortly after the end of a 24-hour ceasefire.

According to the Reuters news agency, clashes have resumed in Sudan after eight weeks of fighting between rival military factions.

Witnesses said fighting resumed shortly after the truce ended at 6 a.m. north of the city of Umdurman.

Umdurman is one of the three cities adjacent to Khartoum and Bahri at the confluence of the Nile River.
