Main opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has been reinstate as a member of Parliament. After the Supreme Court suspended the defamation sentence for political comments critical of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to the AFP news agency, Rahul Gandhi is a member of India’s largest political family. And his reinstatement in Parliament has been welcome by other members of the Congress party.

The Congress Party was India’s ruling party before Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power twice.
The 53-year-old Congress party leader was sentence to two years in prison in March in a defamation case. That critics saw as an attempt to suppress political opposition in the world’s largest democracy.
Rahul Gandhi was punished for a comment he made during the last election campaign in India in 2019, when he questioned why all thieves have the common title Modi.
It should be note that as a result of the conviction, Rahul Gandhi was expell from the legislature, but he remained out of jail while appealing to the Supreme Court in New Delhi.

On this occasion, Congress leader Malik Arjun Kharge termed the decision of the Supreme Court a welcome step and demanded the government focus on governance instead of defaming democracy by targeting opposition leaders.
Congress Party leader and Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor has also welcomed Rahul Gandhi’s rehabilitation.
He said that this is a victory for justice and democracy, and Gandhi can now resume his duties in the Lok Sabha to serve the people of the country.
