Matteo Messina Dinaro was one of the ‘hardest bosses’ of the Sicilian mafia. His style and crime-ridden life have also been depicted in the Godfather films.
Matteo Messina Dinaro was convict by a court of the 1992 murder of anti-mafia judge Giovanni Falcone and his involvement in the devastating 1993 bombings in Rome, Florence, and Milan.

Matteo Messina Dinaro was also sentence six times to life in prison for the kidnapping and subsequent murder of the 12-year-old son of a witness in the Giovanni Falcon murder case.
Messina Dinaro disappeared in the summer of 1993 and spent the next 30 years as a fugitive.
His name was at the top of Italy’s most wanted list, and he quickly became a celebrity.

Messina Dinaro was arrest on January 16, 2023, while seeking treatment at a health clinic using a fake ID.
He was then detaine in a high-security prison in the central Italian region of Laghila while undergoing treatment for cancer.
In August, Messina Dinaro was transfer to the prisoners’ ward of a local hospital. There, his condition had worsened in recent days.
According to media reports, this weekend he was in a ‘coma’ from which it was not possible to come back.

Reports further stated that doctors had stopped feeding him, and Matteo Messina Dinaro himself had expressed the wish that he no longer wanted to live.
In interviews after his arrest, Messina Denaro repeatedly denied being a member of the Sicilian Mafia.
